Certain SEO strategies try to exploit certain rules of search robots. Web-sites utilizing these are being penalized by search engines.

These SEO 'experts' know that number of links is one of many factors for increasing web-page rank in search results. However, they don't want to invest time and effort on doing real Search Engine Optimization by improving other 100+ factors, like for example content of your pages. They just want to make fast money by increasing your site's ranking by linking to it from the SPAM sites.
