Where is Google heading?

Update:

In the last few years I have noticed it has become much harder to rank sites on Google. I knew it was in part due to using machine learning in ranking where things are based much more on big data statistics and less on common sense factors.

However, a recent whistleblower video illuminates why some sites may not rank as high or even be completely removed from search (or the platform all together). Following video has been removed from all major video sharing platforms, so it is quite important to see.

It is so important that some of the responsible people from Google have been called to congressional hearing. Super important points were made by the congressman:

I would add a few more points. Not only is it dangerous removing opposing views as it can be compared with some censorships of pretty nasty governments found in historical books, it is dangerous also, because as congressman Dan mentioned, it brings divisions into the society, but even more importantly, it hides the true opinions of people who think differently which makes it harder for those whose opinions are present and amplified by this filter bubble to learn about different arguments and prepare themselves for discussions with friends who are not like minded. So not only is it not helping liberals but it is hurting them. If you are a liberal (or more leaning towards left like myself), do You want to not be able to see what other people think and know? Or do you want to research them as well, and maybe go to those sites and ‘teach them a lesson’ by sharing your views with them. Do you see the issue here?

I was so annoyed with the various news censorship on the web (including Google which lasts for many years) that I spent months building a news search engine which presents as many diverse views as it finds: Views in News. We have identified not 2 (left and right) but dozens of significant ideologies around the world, and only in USA several different distinct left orientations.

What is also ironic is that Jen Gennai seems so self assured as if she reached the wisdom of God, while Dan Crenshaw rightfully mentioned the dubious education of this team in charge of ‘fixing’ biases. But I guess that is common, the more you know the less arrogant you become.

Now, note that Google team has no issue with directly cutting livelihood of people of different political opinions or ideologies, as some of the guys mentioned make money from website or video ads, and removing them from search results directly affect their income. Or even your site can be affected if you link to conservative websites or are linked by them, even though your site is not about politics. To understand a bit how that naturally works in search engine algorithms, read this article about nofollow attribute. It does not take a huge leap in creativity to assume they would not have any issue with going even further, i.e. moving to spam folder the job offers you get by email if they determine you are of conservative leaning, as a conservative without an income is less dangerous than one who makes good money and can contribute to political campaigns? Or even if your site is being optimized by someone conservative, and you have added them to your Google Webmaster Tools. After calling few Jews Nazis, one may not be surprised with any other deficiency in logic coming from these Google ‘fairness team’ guys.

That is why I am switching from GMail and other G Services to Freedom Box.

NB. It is interesting that none of the major SEO sites following everything that Google does and publishing most insignificant updates, none of them even mentioned above leaked video and what it means for SEO. In a way I am not surprised as they live off a symbiosis with Google.
